Chongqing’s ’15-Minute Life Circles’ Enhance Community Living

In the bustling city of Chongqing, a transformative initiative known as the ’15-minute community life circle’ is reshaping urban living. This concept ensures that residents can access essential services—such as education, healthcare, childcare, and recreational facilities—within a 15-minute walk from their homes.

Bringing Services Closer to Home

Since its rollout in 2025, the ’15-minute life circles’ have benefited more than 3.1 million residents. By integrating public service resources into communities, the initiative aims to create comprehensive service systems that cater to the diverse needs of urban dwellers.

Focus on Childcare and Elderly Care

A key aspect of this initiative is the emphasis on childcare services. Facilities like ‘Yuhao Space’ have been established within communities, offering affordable childcare and educational programs. These spaces also serve as community hubs, providing services such as community canteens and activity centers for the elderly, thereby fostering intergenerational connections.

Revitalizing Community Spaces

To implement these life circles, Chongqing has revitalized underused community spaces. Old property rooms and vacant areas have been transformed into dedicated zones for children’s learning and play, maximizing service efficiency while minimizing costs. As of now, 48 ‘Yuhao Spaces’ are operational across the city, benefiting over 300,000 women, children, and families.

Promoting Sustainable Urban Living

The ’15-minute life circles’ not only enhance convenience but also promote sustainable urban living. By reducing the need for long commutes, they contribute to lower carbon emissions and encourage a healthier lifestyle. This initiative reflects Chongqing’s commitment to creating more livable, inclusive, and people-centered urban communities.
